I just lost my job with the state of california. I was working as an office assistant to an administative law judge. I cant belive where my life has taken me, that i have actually ended up on this website asking for financial help from total strangers. A year ago i would have been on this same website helping the people who are in financial distress, now i am one of them. I am a single mother to a 3 year old son and my father, who is in very bad health just had to move in with me. My rent each month in 975.00 and that doesnt include bills. I am asking for any kind of help that someone can offer. I just got a shut off notice for my electric bill, and i dont know what im going to od. I know some of you may think, "well why doesnt she ask her family for help"? The answer to that question is, is thatmy family does NOT have alot of money, my family are a bunch of blue collar, HARD workers that i know just dont have the extra money to give. But believe me if they did, i know they would help me. PLease Help me, thank you

There are a few things you can do.

 

Step One, call your utility companies and explain you are currently out of work - request an extension.  They are usually willing.

 

Step Two, get on unemployment if you are not already on it.

 

Step Three, go to social services and apply for any assistance you qualify for.  It is humbling, and it can be embarassing for someone who used to be more affluent but what is worse - not having bills paid and food, or loosing some pride?

 

Step Four, contact local churches and Salvation Army to see if they can be of help.

 

I wish you the best, and I wish I had the money to help you.  Maybe some of this will help, though.
